Aging In Place Remodeling Questions
What is aging in place remodeling?
It is remodeling that makes a home safer and easier to live in as you get older, such as walk in showers, grab bars, wider doors, better lighting and kitchens with easier to reach storage.
What makes a bathroom senior friendly?
A low or zero threshold shower, a shower seat, grab bars anchored into framing, slip resistant flooring, a comfort height toilet, a reachable vanity and bright, even lighting.
Can I make my home more accessible without a full remodel?
Yes. Grab bars, lever handles, better lighting, non slip flooring and a tub to shower conversion can be done individually and still make a large difference.
How can I make my kitchen easier to use as I age?
Pull out shelves, drawers instead of deep cabinets, lower work surfaces, lever or touchless faucets, slip resistant flooring and bright task lighting all reduce bending, reaching and strain.
Which remodels help people stay in their home longer?
Bathroom safety updates, single level living improvements, wider doorways, safer entrances and better lighting are the remodels most often linked to staying at home longer.
Bathroom Remodeling Questions
How long does a bathroom remodel take?
A tub to shower conversion or tile update can take one to two weeks. A full bathroom remodel typically takes two to four weeks depending on tile choices, plumbing changes and material availability.
What bathroom updates reduce fall risk?
A low or zero threshold shower, properly anchored grab bars, a shower seat, slip resistant flooring, a comfort height toilet and brighter lighting are the most effective updates for reducing falls.
Can you convert my bathtub into a walk in shower?
Yes. Tub to shower conversions are one of our most requested bathroom projects. We remove the tub, update the drain and waterproofing, and build a tiled shower sized to the space.
Do you repair water damage behind bathroom tile?
Yes. When we find soft walls or subfloor during a remodel, we repair the framing, subfloor and backer board before installing new tile so the problem does not return.
Kitchen Remodeling Questions
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
A cosmetic update such as a new backsplash or countertops can take a few days to two weeks. A full kitchen remodel with new cabinets, counters and flooring usually takes several weeks, depending on material lead times and the scope of any layout changes.
Should I replace or reface my kitchen cabinets?
If the cabinet boxes are solid and the layout works, refacing or painting is a cost conscious option. If boxes are water damaged, sagging or the layout does not work, replacement is usually the better long term choice.
What kitchen changes improve safety?
Brighter task lighting, slip resistant flooring, rounded counter edges, pull out shelves, drawers in place of deep cabinets and lever or touchless faucets all reduce strain and the risk of falls or burns.
Can I stay in my home during a kitchen remodel?
Yes, most families stay home. We contain dust, keep work areas organized and help you plan a temporary kitchen setup in another room.
Basement Finishing Questions
How long does it take to finish a basement?
Most basement finishing projects take several weeks from framing to final paint, depending on the size, number of rooms and inspection schedules.
Can a finished basement include a bedroom?
Yes, as long as the room meets egress and code requirements, including a properly sized window. We plan bedroom layouts with those requirements in mind.
What flooring works best in a basement?
Luxury vinyl plank and tile are popular because they handle temperature changes and occasional moisture better than solid hardwood.
Do I need a permit to finish my basement?
Most basement finishing projects in Aurora and surrounding cities require a building permit. Permit requirements are set by your city, and the work is planned to pass inspection.
Water Damage Reconstruction Questions
Can water damaged drywall be saved?
Drywall that was briefly wet and dried quickly can sometimes stay. Drywall that sagged, crumbled or stayed wet for long periods should be replaced to avoid mold and weak walls.
Do you fix ceilings damaged by a leak?
Yes. We repair small stained areas and replace larger damaged ceiling sections, then texture and paint to match.
Can you replace a door damaged by water?
Yes. Swollen or warped interior doors and door frames are replaced and finished to match the rest of the home.
Do you handle the drying process?
Our work focuses on reconstruction after the area has been properly dried. If drying is still needed, it should be completed first so moisture is not sealed inside walls.
Log Home Restoration Questions
How often should a log home be restained?
It depends on exposure and the product used, but sunny Colorado walls often need maintenance every few years. Water no longer beading on the surface is a sign it is time.
Can rotted logs be repaired?
Yes. Depending on how deep the rot goes, damaged sections can be repaired or replaced and then sealed.
What is chinking repair?
Chinking is the flexible seal between logs. Repairing cracked or separated chinking keeps air, water and insects out.
